Titan and I spent Friday evening together, first eating at a new restaurant in White Sulphur Springs, then bringing our boxed tiramisu home so we could watch the 1996 Twister movie. Somehow, Titan had missed seeing it back in the day, so he had no idea of how one Dodge Ram would change the tornado-tracking world. I'd coveted a Ram after seeing that movie, but could never justify the expense.

Once we'd finished our movie and dessert, I suggested brewing up some decaf house blend coffee. Titan agreed, walking over to "help," which actually consisted of standing next to the counter and appreciatively watching me putter around. He did manage to set out a couple of mugs, though.

Coal trotted over to his dog bed and started kneading it before he cozied up. He was clearly ready to call it a night, but he wasn't about to neglect his guard duty and head upstairs, no matter how much he liked Titan. He had to keep me in his sights—which was ironically just like Titan himself.

Trying to hide my grin, I headed over to grab the creamer. My phone rang, and I saw that Bo was on the other end.

"Hey, sis. I hate to bother you so late, but we'll need to get someone to fill in for August tomorrow at the faire. I wasn't sure who would be available." He sighed. "Charlie wants him to head down to the station for questioning."

"No," I protested. "Why?"

"I guess someone reported that August said in public that it's not surprising when land disputes turn violent, and that he hoped Robbie got what was coming to him for stealing his dad's land."

"Someone reported it?" I groaned. "I'll bet I know exactly who that someone is."

Titan's eyes widened at my scathing tone, but he stayed silent, taking the creamer and pouring the right amount into each coffee mug.

Bo continued. "I don't know who it was, since Charlie didn't say. But I do think he's concerned about August. Young men can be a little impulsive, you know."

He didn't have to tell me. Bo had joined the Marines as soon as he could, ready for adventures that would take him out of his mountain home. He'd discovered his strengths as a Marine, then he'd moved on to work for the Drug Enforcement Administration, finally landing his ten-year cover job at Coffee Mass on the West Coast.

But August seemed more certain about direction in life, which was heading toward forensic investigation. And he was firmly attached to his family farm and to his grandmother's shelter. I couldn't see him chucking any one of those things to poison his neighbor.

Still, Charlie had to do what he had to do. "I'll get in touch with Bristol," I said. "I think she's free tomorrow. She's worked our booth before, so I won't need to tell her much, but I'll help her out until Kylie comes for her shift after lunch."

"I'll be there as well, so we shouldn't get too inundated," he said.

"You planning to wear the kilt?" I asked.
